Český Krumlov belongs to the most significant and surely also among the best-known town protected areas, which were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. Český Krumlov became a UNESCO-listed site in 1992.

Almost 300 old buildings built in the Renaissance or Gothic style were the reason why the town became a part of the UNESCO heritage.

The Castle and the Chateau Český Krumlov

The chateau is the second largest in the Czech Republic, after the Prague Castle . There is a chateau and a castle too. The buildings have towered above the river Vltava since the 16th century. The Gothic castle was rebuilt in a Renaissance chateau. We can still see remains of Gothic walls which document the rich history of the place.

There are several visiting routes in the chateau. We can visit beautiful interiors but also the Baroque theatre or the chapel, which is also parts of the complex.

Church of St Vitus

The Church of St Vitus was built in the Gothic style and its one of the pearls of this architectional era.

The Jesuit Seminary

Those who love Baroque architecture should visit the Jesuit Seminary, which was rebuilt in a grammar school.

The Square in Český Krumlov

We should also mention the New Town Hall which is from the 16th century. Next to the town hall we can find a lot of beautiful and well preserved Renaissance and Gothic houses. In the middle of the square, there is an ancient stone fountain which was built in the 16th century and went under a reconstruction in the 19th century.
